Research Interests
Discovering the identities, ecological relationships and biogeochemical interactions between microbial organisms inhabiting coastal marine ecosystems is my central research focus. I strive to employ a variety of molecular approaches to make sense of the microbial influences on reef biogeochemistry, including nutrient recycling and the balances of both organismal and ecosystem-level production, calcification and respiration. I believe that revealing the cause and effect of these microbial dynamics that occur in marine environments, but cannot be observed our human eyes, are critical for understanding ecosystem health and function.
